We encourage those putting together teams for the Business Game to reflect as broad a range of backgrounds and experience as possible. In this way, when reviewing and changing the policies of their virtual company, there is an opportunity to see the potential consequences of their decisions from different perspectives.

Even so, teams can find themselves in a position where they do not have as much insight into a particular issue as they would like. In this situation, facilitators can provide generic advice, usually by helping the team to identify unsafe assumptions that may have been made but not providing solutions.
One of the primary benefits of participation in the Business Game is the “highlighting of learning opportunities” or knowledge/experience gaps in the virtual world before they can do any damage in real life situations. In this way, the competition often motivates teams and individuals to acquire the additional knowledge they need in the form of books, CDs, DVDs or third party training courses.

Some clients use the Business Game as part of an integrated leadership development programme and incorporate specific modules with the simulation exercise taking place immediately afterwards. In this way, the new material can be actively disseminated and applied by the teams while it is still fresh in the mind. This radically improves understanding and retention.
